As a rideshare and delivery driver, tracking mileage is crucial for maximizing your earnings and reducing your tax burden. By popular demand, we've made mileage tracking even easier with a new feature exclusive for our Gridwise Plus Members: Automatic Mileage Tracking.
We're working hard to make Gridwise the best earnings and mileage tracker for gig workers everywhere. If you encounter any issues, have feedback or suggestions on how we can improve this feature, please reach out to us at support@gridwise.io.
How to Turn on Automatic Mileage Tracking
- Turn on the automatic tracking option by tapping on your profile in the upper left.
- Tap on Settings in the upper right.
- Select Mileage Tracking.
- Select Automatic.
- Choose a timeout period. This will set the amount of time to wait after you stop moving to turn off mileage tracking.
- Start driving, and we'll handle the tracking in the background.
- Your mileage will be saved once you stop driving and the timeout period has passed.
Please note: when logging out of Gridwise your preferences will revert to manual.
Selecting a Timeout Period
The timeout determines how long you must remain stationary before the mileage tracker stops tracking. We suggest setting a time interval based on your work routine. You have the flexibility to choose a timeout period ranging from 3 minutes to 3 hours.
- A shorter interval gives you a more detailed view of your starts and stops, but may mean more mileage items to sort.
- A longer interval may be better if you find yourself waiting for long periods of time for passengers or deliveries.
How to Categorize Mileage Items
Because the automatic tracker is always running, it’s likely that it will sometimes record mileage that isn’t tax-deductible business mileage. You’ll want to categorize these personal miles in order to ensure that your estimated mileage deduction is accurate.
- To review your mileage items, navigate to the Earnings tab.
- Tap on Recently Tracked Mileage at the top of your earnings page.
- Categorize gig-related trips as business by swiping right, and swipe left to categorize personal trips.
- Select the services you were working for during this time.
- Tap Done to save the entry.
To edit a mileage item in review, simply tap and update as needed.
